James. T (Sonny) Tillman, age 89, passed away December 9th 2015. Mr. Tillman was born on October 12, 1926 in Stratford, Texas to Herbert Cleveland Tillman and Bertie Katherine Daughetee. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather George White, daughter, Sherry A. Harbin and brothers, Horace C. Tillman., Thomas Tillman , sisters, Mildred Tillman, Agnes Schafer, Hazel Reeves, Dorothy Ross, and Wanda Artzt. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Tillman of 47 years, two sons, James R. Tillman (Rita), George T. Tillman (Pat), and three daughters, Sheilla R. Beyette (Don), Roxanna L. Spindler, Stephanie D. Koch (Charles). Two grandsons, D.J. Beyette, Caleb Spindler and three granddaughters, Shelly Bryant (Kevin), Melissa White (James) and Tiffany Moore (Justin). Also has six great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces and many friends.
Mr. Tillman was retired from U.S. Army in 1969 after 22 years in the service. He received the Bronze star in June 1969 in Vietnam. After discharge from the U.S. Army he served 32 years as a Military Property Manager for the JROTC Programs in several schools in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Tillman loved fishing at the coast with his family and bowling with his friends. He bowled a 300 game on December 13, 1995 at Astro Bowling Center.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Highway, on December 14, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church December 15, 2015 at 11:30am located at 4411 Moana, San Antonio, TX, 78218. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
