Jesus "Jesse" Esparza, III was born in Laredo, Texas on September 25, 1930, and passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas on October 30, 2021. Known as a fierce protector to everyone he cared for, Jesse spent his life as a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and formed special bonds with many during his well-lived life.
Aside from his family, Jesse's greatest devotion was to the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring after over 38 years of honorable service. He was an avid reader with a passion for politics, sports, and hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. His sense of humor, humility, kindness, intelligence and words of wisdom are what his friends and family will remember most.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus, Jr. and Dora Esparza; his sister, Dora Sanchez; and his brother, Jorge Esparza. He is survived by his devoted wife of 26 years, Irma Esparza; his brother, Noe Esparza (Brenda); his step-daughter, Giselle Diaz (Alex); grandchildren, Hon. Monique Diaz (Matthew), Alex Diaz, Jr. (Rachel), and Bryan Diaz (Keegan); his four great-grandchildren; godson, Jerry Sanchez (Laura); niece, Natalie Esparza; niece, Mary Nell Sanchez; nephew, Nick Esparza (Deanna); nephew, Larry Sanchez (Sandra), and so many family members who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 9th from 1:00-2:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 pm. For those who cannot attend, a livestream may be viewed on the Sunset Funeral Home Facebook page.
