Jess Garcia was surrounded by her family as she peacefully passed away on October 11, 2021 at 2:06 A.M. at Saint David Medical Center in Austin, Texas. She was 35 years old. Jess was born on November 9, 1985, at the Women’s Hospital in Houston, Texas to Santiago Jr. and Dalia Garcia.
She is preceded in death by Santiago Garcia (paternal grandfather), Norberto and Irene Calvillo (maternal grandparents), Norberto Calvillo Jr. (uncle), Delia (Calvillo) Zorrilla and Alisia Calvillo (aunts), Efrain Munguia and Michael Seales (cousins). Jess is survived by Santiago Jr. and Dalia Garcia (her parents), Marcus A. Garcia and Lucas R. Garcia (her brothers), Guadalupe O. Garcia (paternal grandmother), 13 aunts, 11 uncles, and 32 cousins.
She was raised in a military family and traveled the United States and Europe, but she always considered Austin her home. Jess was a kind, passionate, loving person who touched so many people around the world. She was smart, funny, quick with a joke and loyal, with a heart full of love and compassion. Jess was a social justice warrior and activist that fought for social justice, equality and political responsibility. Her beautiful smile and magnetic personality just drew people to her.
Jess was three-years-old when her dad took her to see Michael Jackson (MJ) in concert in Houston Texas. As a result of this magical experience, it was inevitable that Jess became a fierce advocate regarding MJ's innocence and joined the international #MJINNOCENT movement. She would research and participate on podcasts of wrongly accused individuals. Jess advocated for LGBTQ rights, Women’s Rights, and Black Lives Matter. She defended friends and strangers alike when she witnessed injustice. Jess followed current issues and vigorously campaigned for her preferred presidential and congressional candidates. She was loved by so many. Jess’ loss will be sorely felt; her voice and her passion will truly be missed.
