Janet was raised in the military. There were many moves throughout her early life. After the death of her mother, she resided at St Mary’s Hall, a boarding school in San Antonio, later attending secretarial school.
As a young girl, she loved horses, and often talked of riding at Fort Sam Houston, where she was a member of a “mounted” Girl Scout troop.
Janet married Hugh D. Wallace in Albany, Georgia on March 23, 1943. They had five children, and were married 55 years.
During that half-century, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a supportive member of the military community. She also found the time to volunteer at the American Red Cross and, later, the Assistance League of San Antonio.
Her other interests included playing Mah Jong, knitting, crocheting, and needlepointing. Everyone in the family was always so happy to get one of Janet’s beautifully finished pieces.
And Janet loved animals, especially dogs.
When Hugh retired, they traveled extensively. Janet continued her travels with her friends after Hugh died.
Janet resided at the Army Residence Community for many years. Later, she moved to Magnolia to live with one of her daughters, and then to The Village of Gleannloch Farms.
A special thanks to all of the staff in the Memory Care Unit at Gleannloch for the wonderful care and respect they gave Janet.
