He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Bessie Callahan; his parents and brothers.
He is survived by his son, William Johnson; daughter, Martha Johnson; and granddaughter, Chemeka Johnson.

A graveside service for James will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter No 4, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
