Jack Kramer was born February 11, 1927 in Redstone PA, the son of Helen Shrum and Jack Thomas Kramer. Mr. Kramer joined the United States Army in April 1945.He later joined the United States Air Force on December 29, 1950 where he served at Lackland, AFB until 1958 when he was sent to Iwo Jima in March 1953. He returned from Iwo, Jima in October,1954 and was assigned to the 509th Bomb Wing in Portsmouth, NH until 1963. He retired in 1971 as a Master Sergeant Aircraft Maintenance, Flight Line Controller after serving tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Black Pearl Society commemorating those who served and survived the war in Iwo Jima. Mr. Kramer was a member of the Masonic Lodge and joined St. Andrews Lodge #56 , Portsmouth ,NH 1959. After retirement in 1971 he moved to San Antonio, TX and joined the Texas ‘’8’’ Lodge on Durango Street, San Antonio. He was the Past Master Kelly Lodge #1131 from 1999-2000. He became a 32nd degree (Scottish Rite) mason in 1971. He is a current member of Alzafar Shrine. On January 23, 2010 after 50 years of service was awarded the certificate of Master Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Bridges Kramer, mother Helen Shrum, father Jack Thomas Kramer and brother Robert Kramer. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl A. Hernandez, grandson Shon Rodriguez, step daughter Vera Garland, brothers Jack R. Kramer Jr., James Russell Kramer and Theodore Kramer, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on December 26, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home from 10 am to 1 pm. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
