J. Terri Leal, Ph.D. entered Eternal Life on Saturday, September 29, 2012. A San Antonio native, she was born on April 20, 1949. She graduated from Providence High School and then received her B.A from the University of Texas at Austin. She spent many years as a Counselor at San Antonio College and then pursued her M.A. from Trinity University and ultimately her Ph.D. in Differential Psychology from UT Austin in 1988. Terri devoted her life to education and completed a career working with students as Vice President and Director of Institutional Analysis at UTSA from 1989 until 2004.
Terri is survived by her loving husband Robert K. Young, Ph.D., her children Giovanni (Melissa) DeGerolami, Carla (Joseph) Almeter, Katherine Kehoe, John (Nancy) Young, and Steven Young. She had six grandchildren: Bella and Nicklaus Almeter, Natalie and John DeGerolami, and Alison and Mackenzie Young. She is also survived by her siblings: Louise Bridges, Sister Lourdes Leal CDP, Rosalie (Frank) Ferran, Anthony F. Leal and Francis X. Leal. Her parents, Antonio and Mary Teresa Leal, and her sister Angela Choate preceded her in death.
Deeply appreciative of art, beauty and music, she enjoyed celebrating life, sharing her culinary talents and devoting her time to caring for her family. Spending time with her grandchildren gave her tremendous joy. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will take place at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Thursday Oct. 4, 2012 from 6-9 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Little Flower Basilica on Friday October 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.
Donations in her name may be given to the Humane Society.
