Irma Urias, 75, was born in San Antonio, TX on July 13, 1949 and passed on April 9, 2025. Irma was predeceased by her parents Ernesto and Jesusita Urias, brother Ernest Urias and partner Luis Rodriguez Jr.
Irma is survived by sister Sylvia Urias-Vallejo (Adrian), niece Velia Charo, nephews Ernest Urias III, David Wheeler (Laura) and James Wheeler (Candy). Great grand nephews and nieces, Mike Charo (Martha), Justin Charo, Steven Charo, Aiden Charo, Destinie Parks, Jesse Joe Garza (Courtney), Ernest Urias IV and Abel Garza. Special extended nieces and nephews Gina, Natasha, Dolores, Sarah, Miranda, Abby, Arianna, David Jr, James Jr, Barbara Jean, Ricky, Jonas, Henry and Eddie; Goddaughters Cindy Romero and Nicole Moran; Special friends and caretakers Juanita Mata, Leticia Rosales and Gloria Rosas.
Irma graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University (Bachelor's degree) and University of Houston (Master's Degree). She was a dedicated educator at Esparza elementary school in San Antonio and Bruce and Sherman elementary schools in Houston. Her classroom was a place of inspiration, she was known for her kindness, profound knowledge and ability to nurture young minds. Irma received numerous awards for her outstanding contributions to education, with a distinguished 30 year career as an educator.
Upon her retirement, Irma returned to San Antonio to care for her parents.
In 2014 she was diagnosed with pancreatic and kidney cancer. She lived with strength and resilience even after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. She fought cancer with unwavering strength and grace. Despite the challenges of the cancer, diabetes and epilepsy, Irma continued to live life to the fullest, especially during Fiesta.
Irma will be remembered for the love and generosity she shared with her family, friends and students. Throughout her life she demonstrated that being an aunt wasn’t merely about family obligation, instead it was about creating a special bond. Irma was one of a kind and for that she will be remembered.
A visitation will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM with a recital of the holy rosary to be held at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. John Berchmans Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Urias III, David Wheeler, Mike Charo, Justin Charo, Steven Charo and Aiden Charo. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Wheeler and Ernest Urias IV.
In honor of Irma’s personality and fondness of Fiesta, we encourage attendees to wear Fiesta theme attire or vibrant colors.
