She was raised in Algoma and Green Bay, WI and has lived in San Antonio since 1992. She and her husband, Bernard Mathy, were married 49 years at the time Bernard passed away on September 10, 1990.
Mrs. Mathy worked for Clyde's Jewelry Store in Green Bay, WI, beginning in 1939, continuing through World War II, when Bernard was an Officer with the United States Navy deployed in the Pacific, and ending in 1989, when she retired after 50 years of service.
She was a member of the Green Bay, WI West High School class of 1937, and attended every class reunion through the 70th reunion held in 2007, its last, given the advancing age of the attendees. Mrs. Mathy was the magnet that attracted close friends and lifelong associates who now stand by those whom she has left behind.
Mrs. Mathy was adored by her sons and daughter.
She was the glue that bound together her extended family through each of life's challenges.
She lived her life with honor, hard work, dedication, humility, deep faith, and great humor. She treated everyone with kindness and sweetness.
She was anchored at the core with firm resolve to live her life meeting high standards.
In the last six months of her life, she faced her illness with a quiet courage that inspired everyone around her.
She is survived by her three children and spouses: Dr. Bernard and Kathleen Mathy, Sugar Land, TX; Thomas Mathy, San Francisco, CA; and Judge Pamela Mathy, San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren and their spouses: Dr. Christian Mathy, San Francisco, CA; Dr. Jonathan and Joanna Mathy, Boston, MA; and Wendy Mathy, Richmond, CA; one great grandchild: Jonelle Mathy; and her many, dear friends in Wisconsin and Texas.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Mrs. Mathy's friends and neighbors for their many kindnesses and for the extraordinary care afforded by Mrs. Mathy's health care providers, who treated Mrs. Mathy as if she were their own mother: Heberto Garza, M.D., Nix Clinic; Nix Home Health Care Services; VITAS Hospice Care; Teresa Myers, R.N.; Stephanie Whitenack, R.N.; and aide Ms. Olivia Franklin.
Interment will be private.
