Imogene B Glaeser

Imogene B Glaeser, a San Antonio resident for over 80 years, passed on Dec. 2, 2011. She was born in Westoff, TX on Aug. 1, 1918 to Lottie and Herman Bell. Imogene’s mother died during the 1918 flu pandemic shortly after giving birth to Imogene. She and her older sister were raised by four aunts. At 16, Imogene met and married Otto A. Glaeser. Otto was a fine trumpet player working at Shadowland (Roaring 20’s). In that Big Band era, the newlywed Glaesers traveled the country for several years with various well-known bands. After returning to San Antonio, Imogene and Otto started their family and she became an excellent cook, devoted wife and mother. As her children were growing she served as a homeroom mother, Sunday School Superintendent and Scout Den mother. After Otto’s passing in 1968, Imogene lived with her son, later with aunts, and eventually in a home-care setting. She was predeceased by her husband, and survived by her sister, Edwardyne Bell; son, Stephen Glaeser; grandson, Stephen A. Glaeser; daughter and son-in-law, Sydney and Ron Ostrom; granddaughter, Reagan and Jason Payne; twin great-grandsons, Cooper and Campbell Payne; and several cousins. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park.
