Hugh was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Hugh and Laura McClellan on February 24, 1940. He went to school at Brackenridge High School, San Antonio, and graduated from San Antonio College. Hugh married Laura Reams on December 31, 1982, in San Antonio, and later married in 2001, Dianne Henry on March 3, 2001, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Being self-employed most of his life, Hugh worked in the printing business, owned a health spa, sold newspapers, automobiles, and health care supplements. Owner and CEO of McClellan & Associates, Hugh owned a collection agency, was licensed as an independent insurance agent, and managed payroll services for his clients.
Hugh was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U. S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division as a paratrooper. Receiving various medals, he served as a bodyguard to the chaplain, and as an interrogator.
Hugh was involved in the Presbyterian Church and the Methodist Church. Being a farmer and rancher, Hugh was certified as an official breeder for the Blue Lacy Game Dog (State Dog of Texas) Registry, and was also a breeder of Black Angus cattle.
Hugh is preceded in death by father, Hugh S. McClellan, Sr., mother, Laura Downum McClellan, brothers, Gordon McClellan and Rodney McClellan.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Dianne McClellan, son, Jacob McClellan, Sr. (Miranda), brother, Douglas McClellan (Julie), sister, Maxine Brinkoeter (Clinton), grandchildren, Jacob, Jr., Kinsley, Brinley, step-daughter, Jessica Jette (David), step-grandson, Isaac Jette, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Hugh will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wounded Warriors or Epworth United Methodist Church.
