Henry joined the Army Reserves while still in High School. He was later drafted to serve his Country, and he very proudly served in the United States Army for 8 years with a specialty in Aviation Electronics and Radar Technology stationing him in Okinawa, Japan for almost two years. Henry was a Proud Veteran of the Korean War. Henry was a member of the American Legion Post #443, lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #8397, member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was also a member of L.U.L.A.C (League of United Latin American Citizens).
Henry worked Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base for close to 40 years until his Retirement. At Kelly A.F.B., Henry began in Aviation Electronics, but did not stop there. He continued to grow in his Civil Service career. He tested high for a position working with computers and was promoted to a new frontier. Henry was a very hard worker, but made time to take night classes at San Antonio College, all while being the sole-provider for his family. Henry retired in 1987 as a Computer Programmer. Revered by his colleagues, an expert in his field mandating a High-Security Clearance Level. Henry retired a Civilian GS-14 equivalent to a Military Rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Commander. Kudos to Henry for all his hard work and extraordinary accomplishments.
Henry was known for being a Quiet, Gentle Giant. He had a big heart that was as good as Gold and you could always count on him to help you, if you asked. Henry was a Renaissance Man. There were not many talents that Henry did not possess. If there was not a tool he needed to accomplish a project, Henry would invent his own tool. He was intelligent and extremely creative, like his own father. With his father’s help, together they re-built the tiny house Henry and his family lived in, into one that could support a growing family. Henry was a good man in so many ways. He loved and cherished his family. Especially, the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Every year he would take his family out on the road for an exciting vacation. Henry also loved gardening. He especially loved growing herbs, pecan trees and any fruit bearing plant he could get his hands on. In his younger days, he was an avid political supporter. Henry always loved music, but most recently, before his illness kept him from going outside, every afternoon he would go sit outside and listen to the music of Vicente Fernandez as he sipped on his favorite beverage. BUT, Henry’s biggest passion, aside from his beautiful family that he loved dearly, was history. Especially, the history of his family. He was so proud of his ancestral history – he could not get enough. Henry, you will be dearly missed, but never be forgotten, for your Legacy will live on.
