Harris (Chris) Christy of San Antonio passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born in Henderson, Texas to Arthur and Nora (Patterson) Christy on September 2, 1927. Moving to Louisiana with his parents at a young age, Chris grew up hunting and fishing. Later, he continued to hunt and fish in Texas after moving to San Antonio when he joined the Army Air Force. While stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, he met and married Lillie Mae Knodel. They were married for 45 years. Chris retired from civil service at Kelly Air Force Base in 1989. Besides hunting and fishing, Chris enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, growing flowers, pecan and fruit trees. He was a voracious reader visiting the local libraries frequently. He enjoyed playing computer games and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Bill and Ray Christy, a sister, Gwendolyn Mott; brothers-in-law Delton Mott, Alfred Peterman, Francis Beck, Ruben Beck, Gordon Hendee, Eddie Runge; sisters-in-law Jerelene Christy, Dot Christy, Lee Christy, Beatrice Hendee, Dorothy Beck and Elizabeth Runge, a nephew, Harvey Runge.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Linda Winkler (Dennis), son, Arthur Christy (Nancy), granddaughters, Christy Ramos (Ray), Jennifer Bauerkemper (Tim), Michelle Gonzales (Tony), Courtney Christy; grandsons, Duane Winkler (Kristen), Nicholas Christy, BJ Holloway (Christine), James Carley (Evette), Jeremy Carley (Jessica), great grandchildren, Lukas, Aidan, Ava, Benjamin, Lauren, Ali, Dorian, Avery, Jade, Jenson, and Jett and business partner, Tara Hogan, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park at 1701 Austin Highway in San Antonio. The funeral service begins at 10:30 a.m. immediately after the visitation. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
