Guadalupe Gonzalez Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at the age of 81 in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Born on March 29, 1943, in San Antonio, Guadalupe lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering spirit of joy.
Guadalupe was a proud graduate of Fox Tech High School. He furthered his education at Southwest Texas State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree that would serve him throughout his distinguished career. Guadalupe dedicated 26 years of service to his country as a Drill Sergeant Training Instructor and later retired as an Air Force Master Sergeant. His commitment to his fellow veterans continued with over 20 years of service in personnel at the Veterans Administration Hospital, where he supported his comrades with the same vigor and empathy he brought to every aspect of his life.
Family was the cornerstone of Guadalupe's world. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Guadalupe Gonzalez, and a loving father to his children: Barbara Cervantes, Michael Gonzalez, Patricia Maldonado, Joseph Casillas, Andrew Gonzalez, Patricia Noriega, Debbie Casillas, and Jason Gonzalez. His legacy includes 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values and love he instilled in them. Guadalupe was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Gonzalez Sr., his mother, Maria Trevino, and his son, Charles Phillip Gonzalez. His presence as the family patriarch will be deeply missed but his memory will be treasured forever.
Beyond his professional and family life, Guadalupe was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer, relishing every opportunity to be out on the green under the Texas sun. His love for collecting was evident in his impressive array of coins, vintage books, magazines, and vinyl music records. He was a true connoisseur of music and movies, often sharing his enthusiasm with anyone who had the pleasure of his company. Guadalupe's sweet tooth was legendary, and he never turned down the opportunity to enjoy a delicious treat with his loved ones.
Guadalupe's zest for life was infectious. He loved to dance, moving with a grace and passion that reflected his vibrant spirit. His pursuit of perfection in all things was not just a personal standard but a demonstration of his deep care for the world around him. He fought tenaciously for his beliefs, embodying the courage and love that he is remembered for.
A visitation for Guadalupe will be held Monday, August 26, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A rosary and vigil service will follow at 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will take place Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 9:30 AM starting at Sunset North Funeral Home going to St Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr, San Antonio, TX 78232 for a 10:00 AM funeral mass. A procession will follow mass going to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209 for a 11:30 AM committal service.
