Grace Imogene Booth was born March 25, 1918 to the late O.C. and Aughti Kinnison in Riviera, TX. She had 6 siblings, Sue, Dorothy, Mary Louise, Lena, Gaston and Paul. “Gene” grew up during the Great Depression and lived, as many Americans did during that time, by surviving from hand to mouth. O.C. “Big Daddy” took care of his family as best he was able, for a time living out of their car and camping wherever they could, finally settling in San Antonio. In 1942 she met a young Army Air Corps Lieutenant, Robert E. Booth, a pilot instructor at Brooks Field. Bob and Gene were married in May of 1942, a wonderful marriage that lasted to the day of her passing last Friday. After WWII and a brief time flying for capital Airlines, Bob resumed his Air Force career, retiring in 1965. During those years they lived throughout the USA as well as Japan. Following Bob’s retirement they lived in several locations, finally settling permanently in Windcrest in 1973.
Her favorite hobby was shopping (she was an “expert”), as well as playing bridge and a keen game of poker. One of her most enjoyable events every year was hosting an annual “Roaring Twenties party”, an event drawing at its peak over a hundred guests dressed to the nines. She and Bob also worked several years as volunteers during the Fiesta Days Celebration.
Surviving family include husband, Robert, sons, Bob and Bill; daughter, Debbe; six grandchildren, Michael, William, Robert, Tess, Cody and Lacy; three great-grandchildren, Calysta, William and Gage; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service will be 9:45 a.m., Friday, January 7, 2010 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. She will be missed by all.
