Gloria Davalos Espinosa, beloved wife of Guillermo Espinosa, passed away on February 6, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 70. Born on May 11, 1953, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Gloria moved to San Antonio at the age of 16 and graduated from Fox Tech High School, where she also learned English.
After graduation, Gloria went to secretary school and then worked at Azteca Films. It was during this time that she met the love of her life at a restaurant in downtown San Antonio. Despite initially not giving Guillermo the time of day, he won her heart, and they married less than 2 years after meeting in 1974.
Gloria was a devoted mother to her daughters, the late Gloria Adriana Espinosa (2002) and Erika Espinosa, pouring her love and energy into creating a warm and nurturing home. She cherished her role as a stay-at-home mom, dedicating herself to raising her family. Gloria had a passion for cooking and exploring different cuisines, inspired by her love for cooking shows. She was known for her culinary talents, particularly her delicious empanadas, which she lovingly crafted during the Christmas season.
Despite enduring great loss from a young age, including the passing of her father at age 12, her older brother Jesús Maria Davalos in 1983, at the age of 31 (two years older than Gloria), her oldest daughter in 2002, and her younger brother Sergio Javier in 2015, Gloria remained resilient and strong. In 1998, she received a life-saving liver transplant at University Hospital, becoming the oldest living liver transplant recipient at the institution. For the last three years of her life, Gloria required dialysis, yet she faced each day with courage and grace, never complaining and always making the best of every moment.
Gloria's love for learning extended beyond the kitchen. She had a deep passion for history and geography, and she could discuss these subjects in depth, captivating those around her with her knowledge and enthusiasm.
Beyond her family, Gloria was a pillar of support and guidance for many soccer kids in the community. Her witty humor and compassionate nature endeared her to all who knew her, earning her the title of a second mom to many. Gloria will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Guillermo Espinosa, daughter Erika Espinosa, and a multitude of cherished friends and soccer kids whose lives she touched.
A visitation for Gloria will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238, followed by a rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
