Gloria is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ignacio Cortez; daughter, Dr. Cristina Cortez Marquez (Mark); niece, Sandy Gonzalez Siller (Abel); grandsons, Marcus Marquez and Arrian Marquez; siblings, Consuela Valle (Roel), Susie Arellano, and Oralia Arellano (Rene); sisters-in-law, Rosa Rodriguez and Dora Rodriguez; nieces, Priscilla, America, Veronica, Rebecca, Amy, and Angela; nephews, Virgil Michael, Guadalupe, David, Roel Armando and John Paul; and additional extended family and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; Isidoro and Trinidad Rodriguez; sister, Adelaida Gonzalez; brothers, Juan Luis Rodriguez, Isidoro Rodriguez, Jr., Guadalupe Rodriguez; and sister-in-law, Margarita Rodriguez.
As the second of 8 children, Gloria was like a second mom to her siblings. In true older sister fashion, she paved the path that the others are still proud to follow. She was smart, reliable, and capable; always the first to come up with solutions in any situation and carry it out seamlessly.
Passionate about education, Gloria pursued and obtained an Associates Degree in Business Administration at Southwest Texas Jr. College in Uvalde. She was resourceful with numbers and spreadsheets and excelled as an accountant with Winter Garden Insurance Associates and La Salle County Medical Clinic. Gloria retired as the Business Manager for Dilley ISD Administration.
After retirement Gloria and her husband Ignacio relocated to San Antonio, TX to spend time with their grandsons and family. Nothing made her happier than seeing her two grandsons grow into wonderful, caring children. Gloria was devoted to her family, and her siblings could always count on her to reach out to them regularly.
Gloria enjoyed music and dancing with her husband. She always had the smoothest moves on the dance floor. She is remembered as a constant supportive figure at her daughter and niece’s school events, including the band’s halftime show at football games. Gloria was there for every milestone, cheering them on when they needed it most.
Gloria will be greatly missed by her family, but she is with the Lord now. As her daughter said, “Feel free to dance with the angels now, Mommy, ‘because I said so.’”
