Gilbert "Gil" J. Arrambide III

Born November 25, 1969 in San Antonio, Gil was the oldest of three children of Catherine J. and Gilbert G. Arrambide Jr. Gil worked at his father's photography studio for over 25 years, joining the family business as a teenager. Over the past decade, Gil lived with his mother and father, who he cared for and loved dearly.

Gil was a kind and giving person. He helped neighbors and his parents, supported his late brother with his landscaping business, was his sister’s greatest champion, and enjoyed being silly with his nieces.

Above all, Gil was an 80s heavy metal rocker! He was a collector and living catalog of heavy metal rock. Gil began watching concerts and recording metal artists as a teen and archived generations of the greatest rock bands. His room was filled from floor to ceiling with records, tapes, CDs, posters, concert tickets, and shirts.

Gil was musically gifted and could play many instruments by ear. He was a talented drummer as a child and played the harmonica, piano and guitar. He also loved to sing and would often pop into a room to perform a quick ditty to whomever would entertain his joy of music.

When he wasn’t rock’n out to Ozzy or Judas Priest, Gil could be found watching wrestling in the evenings. He collected action figures of his favorite wrestlers that were proudly displayed alongside his KISS collectables. Gil enjoyed getting out to watch local wrestling matches with his sister and rock cover bands with his brother and father.

In his final months battling cancer, Gil was cared for at home by his parents and sister with support from hospice. He was laid to rest in his favorite black leather vest and studded leather wristbands, surrounded by the electric sounds and images of his beloved heavy metal bands. Days before he passed, Gil rock’d out with his sister to the entire Gene Simmons album and shared his top three metal songs: Feel the Fire by Overkill, Doomsday for the Deceiver by Flotsam & Jetsam, and The Oath by Mercyful Fate.

Gil’s lighthearted, joyful and encouraging nature will be forever ingrained in all who knew him. May his playful laugh and nurturing embrace fill the gap in the hearts of his loved ones and lift spirits for all days to come.

Gil was preceded in death by his brother Roger J. Arrambide and is survived by his parents Gilbert G. Arrambide and Catherine (Jimenez) Arrambide; sister Monica Ann Arrambide (Ruth); nieces Heather Nicole Lloyd (James), Lauren Elizabeth Svec (Andrew) and Stephanie Denise Guzman (Anthony); nephew-in-law, Manette Jamison; great nieces Victoria Elise Lloyd and Elizabeth Evora Lloyd; and great nephews Jameson Landon Lloyd and Aiden Dalton Svec.

A celebration of life memorial will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10am at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on 6321 Bandera Rd in San Antonio. A lunch reception will be held immediately following the service.
