Gerald Flaven Naugle, devoted husband, father and grandfather, born December 23, 1949, went to his eternal reward on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the age of 62. He graduated from San Antonio Central Catholic High School in 1967, and the University of Houston in 1973, and spent his career as a registered Professional Engineer with Wide Lite and Church’s Fried Chicken, before retiring from the San Antonio Housing Authority in 1989. He was a member of Westover Hills Assembly of God, and loved his Senior Sunday School class, especially Joyce who spoiled him. Although he had an engineer’s natural aversion to wearing ties, he never complained too loudly when his wife made him wear them. A lifelong die-hard San Antonio Spurs fan, he also counted fishing, hunting, tennis, waterskiing, and bowling among his favorite pastimes, and was an avid fan of Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones and Sylvester Stallone movies and Jerry Lee Lewis records.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Anita Lares Naugle, and their three daughters and seven grandchildren: daughter Anita Huddleston and son-in-law James Huddleston, and grandchildren Alex and Paige Huddleston, of San Antonio; daughter Rita Warren of The Woodlands, with grandchildren Leandra Warren of College Station and Jennifer Warren of Houston (and their father Martin Warren of The Woodlands); and Carolyn Reasons and son-in-law David Reasons of San Antonio, TX, with step-grandchildren John Reasons, Lucy Reasons and Nora Reasons of Round Rock.
The immediate family wishes to extend a special thanks to those who made Gerald’s last hours loving ones, and provided comfort to him and the family at the end: Dr. Jarrett McGehee, who, although he was no longer his physician, answered the call in the wee hours of the morning and was there to pronounce Gerald’s departure from this world; WHAG Pastor Jim Rion, WHAG brother David Evans and wife Gloria, WHAG brother Ron Sorensen and wife Josie, and Gerald’s sister-in-law Carrie Rea and husband Raul, for spiritual support to help our Lord welcome Gerald into the next; the caring staff of Christus Santa Rosa Westover Hills; and our entire extended family and the WHAG family for your thoughts and prayers throughout.
Gerald, an adventurer to the end, would want to thank the following, among the many, many, many of those who touched his life and made his last weeks so special and blessed: lifelong friend and Central Catholic classmate Steve Kranz, who flew from Albuquerque and rented an SUV to take Gerald to his 45th high school class reunion; University of Houston classmate Tom Taylor, for all the camping trips and visits from Friendswood, sometimes just to say hello; Central Catholic classmate Jimmy Jungmann, for giving him the opportunity to catch his limit one more time on the most excellent fishing trip; former colleague Leroy Thornburg for the many years of friendship; Westover Hills Assembly of God brothers Doug Handlin and Bob Seper, for an unforgettable target shooting trip; WHAG brother Jesse Morales, Spurs Buddy, for all the Go Spurs Go memories; and WHAG brother Ron Sorensen, for sharing a common interest in light fixtures and for being a good friend.
The family also recognizes those medical professionals that provided such wonderful care, comfort, and compassion to Gerald over the many years: Primary Physicians Dr. Greg Gonzaba and Dr. Cristina Cortez; Cardiologist Dr. Jarrett McGehee; Renal Physician Dr. Christine Toth; Podiatrist Dr. Robert Vranes; Endocrinologist Dr. William Trigoso; Pulmonary Physician Dr. Mark Chalaby; Hemotologist Dr. Manny Santiago; Cardiologists Dr. Carlos Roman and Dr. Daniel Donovan; Neurosurgical Physician Dr. Christopher Bogaev; Urologist Dr. Arthur Centeno; Dentist Dr. Samuel Alfano; the caring staff at HEB Pharmacy on Gilbeau Road, San Antonio Prosthetics, and Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Pyramid Plaza; Dialysis Technican Deshawn, who took such great care of Gerald for so many years, and the entire staff of Fresenius Medical Care Westover Hills Dialysis; and the staff of Christus Santa Rosa - Medical Center.
