children by his side, at the age of 82. George was born in San Antonio, Texas, attended St. Joseph’s
Catholic School, Central Catholic High School and graduated from Southwest Texas University (now
Texas State) in San Marcos, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree.
George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Irma, his parents Herminia and Fred Garza,
brother, Fred Garza Jr, sister, Nora Galindo and nephew, Freddie Garza. He is survived by his sister,
Grace Olivares, his children, Laura Case, Linda Cavazos, Liz Garza and George Garza, and
husbands Mark, John and Kenneth respectively, George’s wife, Kim, his twelve grandchildren; Kevin &
Cathy Case, Kristen Case, Kaitlyn Case, Nicole & Nick Maldonado, Stephanie &Roger Salazar, Christopher
Cavazos and Ryan, Jake and Riley Garza and several nieces and nephews.
George served in the Navy aboard the USS Corral Sea and loved to be on the water. He also loved to
travel with his wife, Irma, and loved music. He and Irma traveled to many places on both land and sea.
George played in the Central Catholic marching band and continued his love for music throughout his
life. He also wrote songs and entertained family with his many instruments during family gatherings.
After a trip to Hawaii, he started his own Ukulele band and performed at local nursing homes.
A rosary is scheduled for 7 PM on Thursday, July 1st at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on 4603 Manitou Dr,
San Antonio, TX 78228. Funeral Mass will be held on July 2nd at 10am at St. Luke’s , followed by a burial at Fort Sam Houston.
