It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of George Flores Jr., of San Antonio, Texas. He was called to our Lord, April 22, 2022, at the age of 93. He was born to Angelina and Jorge Flores Sr., on August 7, 1928.
He served honorably in the Armed Forces, first joining the United States Marines in August of 1945 then enlisting in the United States Air Force, till he retired in August of 1969. His awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation (W/1 STAR), Air Force Good Conduct Medal (W/10LC), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon (W2 STARS), Vietnam Service Medal (W/1BSS) Air Force Longevity Service Award (W/4BR OLC’S), United Nations Service Medal and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He then went on to work at Ft. Sam Houston with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sofia Flores; parents, Angelina and Jorge Flores Sr.; granddaughter Ramona L. Rosales.
He is survived by; his daughters, Rosemary Herrera (Andrew), Alma Landeros, Diana Rodriguez (Richard), Rebecca Spradley (David); son, George Flores III (Gloria); 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
George’s personality made him a favorite for operating and running the American Legion at Post 485 and later managing the canteen at VFW Post 9186, for many years.
George will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2022, Mass will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, on 829 Ruiz Street at 9: 00a.m., followed by procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for Internment.
