He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rosalinda Ervin; his sister, Patricia Thompson (Scott); his daughters, Amanda Ervin and Jessica Ervin; his step-mother, Sylvia Ervin; his step-sisters, Andrea Siebold (David) and Stephanie Barras (Jeff); his brothers in law, Juan Godina (Anna) and Antonio Sifuentes Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Karla Hernandez (Joe), Matthew Hernandez, John Godina and Brian Thompson; his grandniece Clarissa Hernandez and grandnephew Moses Cardenas; and aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins and friends.
In his early years Gary learned to play the piano and played little league baseball and tennis. He enjoyed playing the euphonium in the Highlands High School band and his senior year he won the John Phillip Sousa award. After high school, he received an Associate degree in Computer Science from San Antonio College. He used this expertise in the banking field and worked as a Vice President and Applications Programmer III in the Mainframe Lending Department for Frost Bank for 36 years. In his spare time, Gary loved to play golf, darts, and bowling. He also really enjoyed watching classic TV Shows and dry comedy, including Impractical Jokers and the Andy Griffin Show. Angry Birds was a favorite video game and his favorite music changed to heavy metal bands. For many year’s he completed the daily NY Times crossword puzzle.
Although he was a quiet, private man, Gary’s humor showed through in the cards he sent. He was a family man and attended worship at the Catholic Church with his family, although he was raised Methodist. Family was important to him as he spent time with them at home, at his in laws and vacationing with them each year. His loss has left a deep hole in our hearts.
