My name is Gloria and Ms. Kaiser was my math teacher at Harris Middle School.  I wanted to share one of my wonderful memories of her with her family. Ms. Kaiser deeply cared for her students and she knew many of them on a personal level.  After my first frustrating year in college I returned to Fox Tech to visit her and asked her for guidance.  I owe my teaching career to her because I was ready to drop out of college when she inspired me to take a few education classes before quitting school.  She knew me well enough to know where my passion was and because of her, I completed a successful 29 years of service in the education field as a teacher and as an administrator. Lia and Lauren,
May strength and courage be with you in the upcoming weeks and months as you learn to deal with the loss of your mother.  She was stubborn in a good way, and that is what kept her with us for so long through her battle with cancer.  Our family is strong and that is what will get us through this time of sorrow.  We should rest easily knowing that this will not be the last time we see Aunt Sissy--like my mother said, she is arranging a spot for all of us in heaven, organizing and making things just right for our arrival.  I love you both, and will pray for you two.  Aunt Sissy will be missed.

Dear Lia and family,
Since my husband Kerry was out of town until today, I didn't learn about your mother's passing until it was too late to attend the services today.  Garnette was a special person.  I remember what fun we all had in Italy together.  Please know that my prayers are with her and you.  I will contact you soon by your email. Please know that Linda and I share, in a small way, your loss. We could have and should have come by more often. But know that every time we did come, we left with warm and pleasant thoughts and memories. Your mother was always that way. A gracious host with a positive and cheery personality. We will miss those afternoons (Key Lime Pie will always be special!).

   Your sister is just as beautiful as you are.  God Bless to you and your family today and always.  Sissy is in a wonderful place now and peacefully resting.  She will be loved and remembered by all.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Garnette was one of the nicest, kindest, truly talented teachers to ever walk the halls of James Madison High. She will be greatly missed. What a privilege it was to have met one of the kindest, most intelligent,  sweetest individuals ever! Will always remember those long hours she put into her work. She worked so hard to ensure the success of all of her students. Her spirit of kindness and her smile will be greatly missed. Madison High was truly blessed to have had Garnette as one of the best teachers in NEISD.

It has meant so much to me to have Sissy as my sister. She has always inspired me by her generous kind spirit, her absolute bravery and her pure honest personality. She has set such an example and taught me so much about the kind of person that I would like to be. I will miss her so much until we can be together again. With love until then.

     Our Sissy was the epitome of what a big sis should be. Second in command to Barbara, she set high standards to which the rest of us could only hope to aspire.  Intelligent, diligent, perfectionist and generous are only a few of the traits that come to mind when I think of my sister.
     Always quick to catch on, she devoured new and challenging information at a dizzying rate compared to most.  An avid reader and outstanding mathematician, she was recognized by her teachers and peers alike for her intelligence; graduating with honors as the valedictorian of her high school class.
     Being the gifted individual that she was, it only seemed natural then that she too, was perfectionistic.  Detail oriented in all aspects of her life, she was organized and had a system for everything; from the process for cleaning her kitchen counter tops and arranging her pantry, to the filing systems she used for home and school. One of her former assistant principals described her as "quiet perfection".
     It was obvious early on that she was a natural teacher.  When I was 4 and she was 10, it was Sissy who would walk me out the back door of our modest home, spelling my name with me as we headed out to play, making certain that I would do the family proud when my turn came to enter first grade.  Her penchant for organizing and bringing order to an otherwise chaotic world dovetailed nicely with her ability to teach the abstract mathematical concepts of algebra.  Loved and respected by her students, their parents and her colleagues, she was recognized for her hard work and the long hours she dedicated to ensure the success of her charges who valued and appreciated her help.  The demands she put on herself to be the best possible teacher she could be, often kept her at school until well after dark when most were long gone many hours before her.
     Modest and never one to brag on her personal triumphs, she was perhaps the most generous soul I have ever known. Sissy was the first to recognize a family member, colleague or friend with words of validation and congratulations on their accomplishments.  She gave to others, even during times when she had precious little to share.  It was not well known, but rather than sell or trade in a used car, she gave at least two away; one to a dear coworker and another to my youngest daughter when she was a beginning driver. Because of the long hours she kept during her "portable" years at Madison, she was watched over by a team of "guardian angel" custodians at night.  She showed her sincere appreciation to them by often giving them Christmas bonuses from her personal funds.  Aunt Sis was the one who gave incredibly generous checks to her nieces and nephews as they marched off to college or began a new life upon entering a marriage.  It was she who was the first to offer a helping hand whenever a family member was challenged.  Even as her body became riddled with cancer and she was fighting its ravages, our dear Sissy continued to give of herself to protect her children, her mother, and her siblings from the pain she was enduring.  Throughout her four year ordeal, she never once complained and insisted on being as independent as possible; repeatedly refusing most offers of assistance from her family and friends.  She kept the majority of her struggles to herself in order to shield her loved ones from the pain and suffering she silently endured.  Right up until the very end, her concern was for others, encouraging us from her hospital bed to "go home and get some sleep".
     So it is with great sorrow, dear Sis, that we have to say goodbye to your earthly existence; but we know in our hearts your spirit is alive and well in heaven, organizing and preparing a place for those you've loved so well, and who will continue to love you always and hold you dear in our hearts.

Barbara - I don't know if you remember me from Sam Houston High School.  I am Tempie Vickers Callaway.  I also worked with Garnette at Madison High School .  She was a lovely, caring teacher and friend.  I hadn't been in contact with her since I retired, and I didn't know that she was ill.  I was so saddened to learn that she passed away.  Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Barbara my heart goes out to you and all your family during this very sad time.  I  personnally didn't know Sissy but you always kept us informed as how she was doing.  May you find your strength in God during this time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I taught with Garnette at Madison for several years and always knew her to be a very kind and positive woman, the type of teacher who always went the extra mile for her students. She spoke with pride about her family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Garnette was my best friend in high school.  I loved her dearly and I will cherish my memories of her always.  I can hear her laugh even now.  I pray God's grace and peace for all of her family and her friends.
