Gail Gurwitz a fiercely devoted wife, a tireless and loving mother, a fabulous spoiling grandmother, a kind and loyal friend, and a beautiful woman with an impeccable sense of style and flair passed away on August 1st.
Gail was surrounded by her loving children. She left their warmth to be embraced by those that proceeded her in death, her parents Julian and Dorothy Gold and the rock of her life, her husband of over 60 years, Robert Gurwitz.
Gail was born in Houston Texas and was an only child. Her family moved to San Antonio when she was a young girl. Shortly thereafter her parents started a business that would become an iconic part of the San Antonio community, Julian Gold. Gail was no stranger to the fashion dynasty being built by Julian and Dorothy. She was a walking advertisement for great taste as she was always perfectly adorned no matter the occasion. She continued to be an incredible ambassador for Julian Gold as her husband Bobby took the business to new heights.
Gail began her life with Bobby after going “steady” at The University of Texas. Gail, a gorgeous co-ed and Bobby a star football player at The University were quite the pair. Gail and Bobby were an inseparable team raising their three children. They were affectionately known as Nina and Pop to their eight grandchildren. Nina took great joy in spoiling all her grandchildren. The grand kids knew if they played their cards right, their Nina was always good for a special treat. Little did they know, Nina always had the cards stacked in her favor and loved every minute with them.
Anybody that knew Gail will fondly remember her generosity of spirit, the warmth of her home and her ability to always make room for one more at her table. Gail’s lasting legacy will be of a giving soul, kindness of spirit, and the desire to always be of service to others. Gail’s memory will always be cherished by those on the receiving end of her graciousness.
Gail is survived by her three children: Gregg, Brad and Julie, their spouses Jeanne, Lisa and Joe; and her adored grandchildren: Hayley (Gabe), Zane, Natalie, Matt, Adam, Zachary (Callie), Jeffrey and Katie. All the family are extremely thankful to those that cared for Gail these last few years: Yesenia Sandoval, Regina Lucio, Connie Gomez, Allena Garris and Karel Hoffman. We especially want to thank Betsy Medina for her devoted love and care for our mother, as well as Auggie Contreras who took great care of her beloved dog, Lily.
May her memory always be a blessing.
