Frieda was born in Waldo AR. to W. G. “Gabe” and Pocahontas (Stell) Tompkins. Her sisters were Margaret (Quirk) and Billie (Bolding) and her brother was Lauren. Frieda grew up in Idabel OK. and married Percy G. Richardson, Jr. in 1947, after his return from Japan, where he had been a prisoner of war after surviving the Bataan Death March. Percy was in the Air Force for 30 years, and Frieda moved the family from Oklahoma to England and finally to San Antonio TX during that time. Kaye (Hobson-husband Wayne Raffesberger) was born in 1948 and Mark (wife Margot and sons Marcus and Mason) was born in 1958. Kaye and Wayne live in San Diego and Mark and his family live in San Antonio.
Frieda lived at the house in which Mark and Kaye grew up until a few years ago. She enjoyed sports, reading, cats, drinking coffee with her neighbors, gardening, and her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. The addition of ESPN to her cable channels was a most significant life event. For many years she was famous for her epic Christmas baking efforts and generous cookie tins that were delivered locally and shipped all over the country. She was much loved and will be much missed. Graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, 9AM, at Fort Sam Houston, where Percy was buried. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Antonio Humane Society.
Arrangements under the direction of Sunset North Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
