San Antonio native, Gilmer Frederick Rohde, born on May 7, 1921, went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2013, at the age of 92. Fred honorably served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and the Korean War flying Weather Reconnaissance. He was also President and co-founder of the Alamo KOA Kampground with his brother Al. An avid golfer, Fred played in golf courses around the world, and was proud of his 11 hole-in-ones record.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Alvi Rohde. Survivors include his sons, Ron Rohde and Sterling Rohde; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas, 78218. A Funeral Service will be held at 12pm on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
