Who was this great man we call our beloved? He was a boy with a very short childhood. As the oldest, he spent much of his childhood watching over his siblings and throwing a football through the whole of a tire hanging from a tree. He loved and played sports such as baseball, and football. And yes, he was even a great boxer, he trained with famous boxers. He loved to read and collect comic books, mostly Marvel, a few favorites were Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. He was also great with the harmonica and even better at the accordion. Music was part of his everyday life. It told stories from his past present and future. Stories about his mom, brothers, and son who have gone to be with the lord. He also lost many friends one of whom he lost as a young man living a rough life “Tony” And recently lost another childhood friend whom I was honored to call Uncle Felix. He loved working at Alright Parking lot downtown. He had to have his uniforms pressed with plenty of starch and that special line on both the pants and his shirts. He always had shoe shine. This great man was all about old school. He was very proud of his math skills which he used at the parking lot. He loved to cook, and his Barbecue was so delicious. He loved to tell all kinds of jokes and could keep a serious face while making funny jokes. He loved several bands just to include a few Henry Zimmerle, Abba, Carlos and José, Johnny Cash, Tanya Tucker, and Anne Murray.
He loved to tell stories of the past, he spoke of his grandmother who took him to church every Sunday. He enjoyed being with his children and would often go to church with them on special occasions. He was such a generous man he found a way to help anyone in need. He always had to own a nice pair of Stacy Adams and dark sunglasses preferably old-fashioned Ray-Bans. He was a family man and always took good care of his brothers and sisters. He told us how he bought his house at age 17 although it is a very humble home it was his home and now our home. In his honor, it will never be sold.
His siblings, his children, and a few loyal friends will remember him as a legend. His children will remember him as a provider, a very stern but loving father. He didn’t have to use the belt he had what we call “THE LOOK” If you got the look you better stop what you are doing no questions asked and no talking back. His children say he was the best dad in their world.
He was a very proud man. He always said not to try to be like everyone else, to be your unique self, and never praise yourself or brag about yourself but to let others praise you. It goes without saying, he loved to drink, play pool (he was a pool shark), and a gambler. He placed his last bet on his dying bed. He ran out of luck and life. Our King on earth has gone to be with the King of Kings…
