Francisco “Frank” Allen Guzman, Jr., 89, died on January 11, 2017 in San Antonio. Survivors include wife Eloisa; brother Humberto; 6 sons, 3 daughters; and numerous grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends. Frank was a kind, quiet & gentle man and will be fondly remembered for his love of flying. He was the first citizen of Laredo, TX to earn a commercial pilot’s license in 1948 at the age of 21. Frank was drafted out of high school and served in Europe during WWII after basic training at Keesler Field in Biloxi, MS. Frank often said, “It was the greatest adventure of my life.” After separating from the Army, he served as a reservist until 1989 when he retired as a Staff Sergeant. He maintained his pilot’s license until failing health kept him from flying. He spent his time fondly re-telling his adventures as a crop-duster, cargo pilot, and his time in Europe during WWII. He loved his family, his country, and spending time playing dominos with his grandchildren. A time for remembrance will be held on January 23rd at 7 pm at the Sunset NW Funeral Home; a funeral mass on January 24th at 9:30am, St. Dominic Catholic Church with burial to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Frank’s name.
