Frances Margaret (Alleyn) Moore, age 86, died on March 24, 2012 in San Antonio, TX, after a long illness, bravely fought. She was born on May 6, 1925 in Quebec, Canada, to Germaine and Charles Edward Alleyn. After graduating from L’Ecole des Ursulines de Quebec, she moved to New York City to work as a private secretary with Givaudan-Delawanna. There she met William Sivley Moore, M.D., who was stationed as a medical officer at Station Hospital in West Point. They were married on May 24, 1947 in New York City. Over the 50 years of their marriage, they lived in West Point; Newport News. VA; Sendai, Japan; Washington, D.C.; Poitiers, France; Heidelberg, Germany; and San Antonio. Fran’s lifelong curiosity, openness to life, and devotion to the arts was reflected in her twin passions for world travel and the opera, and in her many activities in support of the Opera Guild, the Tuesday Musical Club, the McNay Museum, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the San Antonio Symphony. During the last decade of her life, she visited India twice, Thailand, Vietnam, France, Guatemala, and Russia. Survivors include her three children and their spouses: William DeGaspe Moore (Mary); George Moore (Emily); and Nancy Moore Lewis (Robert); also six grandchildren: Marie, Thomas, Ryan, and Lauren Moore, and Douglas and Houston Alleyn Lewis; as well as her two brothers, DeGaspe Alleyn of Montreal and Jacques Alleyn of Ottawa. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law and close friend, Houston Moore of Memphis, TN, and countless dear friends and neighbors.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on May 7, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Tuesday Musical Club, 3755 North St. Mary’s Street, San Antonio. Cremation has taken place, and per her request, her ashes will join those of her husband’s in a private family ceremony.
