Fidel L. Herrera, age 79, passed on Friday November 16, 2018 at his home in San Antonio. Born in Sabinal, TX, he attended and graduated Fox Tech High School in 1959, as yearbook editor known as The Brain. Fidel was the first of his family to go to college at the University of Texas, Austin receiving his degree in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry. He began his employment with the State of Texas. His work was recognized by the City of San Antonio and he was brought in to continue his work as a Health Inspector/Sanitarian. He retired as a Chief Sanitarian after serving the community as a public servant for 38 years.
You could catch him every Sunday listening to the word of God as proud parishioner of the San Fernando Cathedral for over 40 years. He enjoyed playing golf with friends. Jazz and trio music filled his spare moments.
Left to honor and remember him is his wife of 40 years, Grace Herrera; his children Marc S. (Mary Ann dec) Herrera, Carlos (Laura) Herrera, his grandchildren Karina, Marc II and Kayna, Christian, Michael, and Abigail. He is reunited in death with his parents Santos & Clemente Herrera, Sister Lilia, brothers Frank (Lile), Manuel (Alice), and Zeke (Janie) and his surviving brother Eloy (Enid) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 20, 2018 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. A Rosary will follow at 7 PM. Funeral Services with be held at the funeral home with a Chapel Service on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10 AM with burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery.
