Fernando Muriel Jr. passed away peacefully at Seton Williamson on January 5, 2012 after surviving a lung transplant in 2009 and battling lung and metastatic bone cancer at the age of 74. He was born on February 9, 1937 in Cotulla, Texas to Fernando Muriel, Sr. and Juanita P. Muriel. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maria; sons, Fernando and Xavier; granddaughter, Marisa; sisters, Anita and Maria Muriel; brothers: Celestino Muriel and wife Diana, Raul Muriel and wife Gloria, Juan Muriel, Pete Muriel and wife Libby. Fernando honorably served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1962. He thoroughly enjoyed a career of over 50 years, working as a parts sales professional, both as an entrepreneur and for General Motors. Fernando was a devout Catholic with a generous and caring heart. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband and friend, but was most proud to be a loving provider for his wife and sons. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Methodist Transplant Center and at Seton Williamson for their excellent and supportive care. The family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2012 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2012 to celebrate a 10:00 a.m. Mass at the San Fernando Cathedral. Interment Services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fernando Muriel Memorial Fund, P.O.
