On Thursday, January 21, 2021, Evelyn Baker Sparks, widow and mother of two stepchildren, died at the age of 82. She was just shy of her 83rd birthday.
Evelyn was born February 18, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee to Clinton Lyle and Louise (Capen) Baker. She had an older brother, Clinton, and a younger sister, Margaret.
She graduated from Trinity University with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1960 and achieved a master’s degree of Social Work in 1962.
She had a career as a social worker and was passionate about helping children who were overlooked and in need of an advocate. She found families to adopt these children and helped unaccompanied immigrant minors find family members to take care of them. She always encouraged everyone to focus on the strengths and good qualities of others.
She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church USA and enjoyed volunteering her time to serve the Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, William, her father, Clinton, her mother, Louise, her brother, Clinton, and her sister, Margaret. She is survived by her two stepchildren, David Sparks and Julia DeLeon, and two nephews, Casey Collins, and Clinton Collins.
