Eulalia P. Esparza entered the loving arms of Our Lord on April 14, 2024, at the age of 87. Eulalia, affectionately known as “Lala,” was born on May 19, 1936, to Manuel Pina and Maria De La Luz Teniente in San Antonio, Texas.
Lala was quite a sports enthusiast, having loved watching the Spurs play, and even played in a women's softball league for over 20 years where she was a pitcher and third baseman. She really enjoyed going on trips to Coushatta and Kickapoo to have some gambling fun with her sister, Cristina. Lala was always a proud and supportive grandma and great grandma, never missing any of her grandchildren's or great-grandchildren's games. She was lovingly known as “Grandma Lala” to all their teammates and families. She’s also traveled to Austin to see the Texas Longhorns Women’s Volleyball team compete.
Lala loved to travel, especially when in support of her family. She attended the U.S. Navy basic training graduations of her son, Mark, in San Diego; her grandson, Isaac, in Great Lakes; and her granddaughter, Regina, also in Great Lakes. She visited her son, Abel, in North Carolina while he was stationed with the U.S. Marines. Lala also proudly attended the university graduation of her granddaughter, Miranda, in Kingsville.
Lala worked alongside her daughter, Corina, for 23 years at both The Salvation Army and Suzanne Smith Management Company. They were inseparable! She worked until she was diagnosed with covid-19 in July 2020, which impacted her health and forced her into retirement.
The family would like to thank Joann Carrera, family friend, for devotedly caring for Lala throughout the past 4 years and showing her great love and kindness. They would also like to thank Harbor Hospice for the care and services they provided during the past year.
Lala will be united in heaven with her husband Manuel S. Esparza; grandson Adrian Aguirre; father Manuel Pina; mother Maria De La Luz Chavez; brother Arturo Pina; and sister Maria De La Luz Torres.
Eulalia’s memory will forever live in the hearts of her loving daughters Corina S. Cantu (Tomas) and Ernestine Saldana; her sons Abel Saldana (Dolores) and Mark A. Esparza; her sister Cristina Pina; her 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Eulalia will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
