Ethel Shield James was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on January 7, 1935 to the late Ethel King and Benjamin Harmon. She was the youngest of seven siblings. Ethel migrated to Chicago in the late 1950’s where she worked in the Chicago Public School System. She served in the school community for over 20 years and held the position of School Community Representative. She moved to Savannah, Georgia in the early 1980’s and worked in the Savannah Georgia School System as a teacher’s aide and taught adult education. She was a longtime member of Speedwell United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Ethel was preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Wright. She leaves to mourn daughters, Darlene Jones (David Jones) and Cynthia Hill (Perry A. Hill); son-in-law, Darnell Wright; older brother, Benjamin King of Staten Island, NY; grandchildren, Desmond Jones, Jonathan Wright, Desirae Jones, Siobahn Wright, and Chan E. Hill; great grandchildren, Malik Nellum-Jones, Rahman Hans, and Malani Nellum-Jones.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Living Faith Community Church.
