

A doting aunt, Kelly AFB retiree, Vegas buff and “mom” to her beloved Chihuahuas Amy and Nico, Esther Rangel passed away March 19 at her sister’s home in San Antonio. She was 80. Born Oct. 14, 1932, in San Antonio, she played clarinet in the marching band at Fox Tech High School. Esther spent 20 years working at Kelly Air Force Base as a Keypunch Operator. A gambler at heart, she enjoyed playing the slot machines in Las Vegas and buying Lotto tickets locally. She loved to share her winnings with relatives and friends. The unofficial Santa Claus of the family, she'd deliver holiday and birthday presents throughout the year among the various households. She is preceded in death by her mother, Josefina Rangel; father, Cirilio Rangel and brother Humberto Rangel. Survivors include brother Raul Rangel and wife Tommie; sisters Gloria Ramos and Mary Talerico, and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff and healthcare professionals at Methodist Hospital, Warm Springs Rehabilitation System, Morningside Ministries, and Vitas Hospice Care for their warm and gentle care of Esther. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
