Esther Garza peacefully passed away in her home with her family by her side on June 17, 2016, after a long illness. She was the 6th child born to Dario Juarez and Felicitas Lumbreras on March 24, 1933, in Rockdale, Texas. Esther graduated from Rockdale High School in May 1952, and married her high school sweetheart, Juan Garza, on December 26, 1953.
Esther was preceded in death by her son Juan A. (Fred) Garza, her parents Dario and Felicitas Juarez, brothers Pascual, Filomeno, Domingo, and Senorino Juarez. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Juan Garza, daughters Yolanda B. Garza of College Station, Rebecca R. Loredo (Roy), Vivian R. Garza-Steele (Robby) Pamela F. Garza; sons Marcus O. Garza (Alma) and Daniel R. Garza (Liz); daughter-in-law Montye Garza, sister Emilia Castillo, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting and traveling. Esther loved to travel with her family. She visited many places in her life, including the Grand Ole Opry, Graceland, Grand Canyon, Mount Rainer, Yellowstone National Park, Disney World, Disney Land, San Francisco, Acapulco, and Basilica de Guadalupe in Mexico City.
Esther was devoted to God and graciously active in community activities. She was a member of the 10 AM Choir at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church from 1972 to 1998. She operated the concession stand for the Westwood Terrace Little League Program. She was a member of the Westwood Terrace Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and John Jay High School PTA as well as the John Jay Athletic Booster Club. Esther worked at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School cafeteria from December 1973 to January 1984. She resigned to care for her grandchildren until 1992 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The Garza Family extends a sincere and special thanks to Bladmira (Gladys) Ochoa Gonzalez, for her loving care throughout the last 15 years, and to the staff of Grace Hospice, for the last six months.

Visitation will be Thursday June 23, 2016 at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00p.m. The Funeral Procession will depart the funeral home on Friday June 24, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 Mass of the Resurrection at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with interment to follow at San Fernando II.
