Jo was one of six children born to Joseph J. Sykora and Ernie D. Fulmer Sykora on February 6, 1927, in Albany, Texas. Her name Ernie Jo was a combination of her two parents’ names.
She met Lynn Paul Bishop, the love of her life, at a community dance social in Cisco, Texas. They married in Victoria, Texas on May 20, 1944. When one of her great grandchildren recently asked her how she knew Paul was “the one”, she replied “because I was his everything.”
While Paul was away in WWII, Jo along with one of her sisters worked as a telephone operator for the Railroad.
Jo and Paul had two children, Gary Lynn Bishop, and Paula Kay Bishop.
Jo and Paul lived in San Antonio most of their lives. They were faithful members of Oak Hills Church for over 50 years. Jo led a Bible Study group and also taught Sunday School.
Jo was an avid gardener and a member of her local Garden Club in San Antonio for many years. After Paul retired, Jo and Paul enjoyed traveling cross country in their RV with family and friends. Most of all she was a virtuous woman. Loved and respected by her four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She loved her family, friends and more than anything loved the Lord.
“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies…Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” - Proverbs 31: 10 & 30
