Erika Theiss Davis, 85, passed away on May 14, 2016. She was born in Berlin, Germany to Franz and Margarete Theiss. She and her mother evacuated to a farm near Innsbruck where she finished her secondary education. After the war, they traveled back to Berlin where they were eventually reunited with her father. She then continued her education and became a multilingual translator.
While in Berlin, she married Capt. John “Jack” Davis. They soon returned to the States, where she became an operator for Illinois Bell in Chicago while he went to Korea. Jack and Erika enjoyed many assignments together in Germany and in America, until his retirement from the Army in 1965. They then settled down in San Antonio with their three sons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eva Theiss; and her husband, Major John V. Davis. She is survived by her sons, Michael, Steve, and Frank; niece, Jeanne Winneke; cousin, Evelyn Lambrou; lifelong friend, Lilo Schober; cats, Timmy, Maggie and Buddy; and her prized pug, Rosie.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
