Born January 20, 1931 in San Antonio, "Across the Alley from the Alamo". He went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 3, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Eric grew up in Houston, Freeport, Flatonia, Austin and San Antonio. He attended Austin High School and graduated from Texas Military Institute, Class of 1948. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&I University, Trinity University and San Antonio College. While at the University of Texas, he pledged Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
At the age of 19, Eric was the youngest manager of a Western Auto Store in the United States. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Salzburg, Austria. He worked at Great Western Finance and Goodwill Advertising. Always the businessman and entrepreneur, Eric owned and operated Alamo News and Book Stores, Kings Tie Town, In the Huddle Newspaper, Ace Bolt and Screw Company, the Milam Drug Store (aka the Linoleum Club) and The Cadillac Bar of San Antonio.
Eric was a member of the San Antonio Northwest Cosmopolitan Club, the San Antonio Downtown Rotary, First Presbyterian Church, Lamplighters, Revelers, Southwest Fastener Association (founding member), Friends of the McNay, Club Giraud, Petroleum Club and ROMEO's breakfast club. Eric loved being with his family, traveling the world, especially Mexico, Germany and Austria, trips to Las Vegas, fishing on the Texas coast, playing washers, blackjack and Pac-Man, The Godfather I & II and hosting dinner parties at The Cadillac Bar for friends and family. He forever loved the University of Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys and The Houston Astros, celebrating their recent World Series title.
Eric is preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Evelyn Heydenreich. He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia M. Heydenreich (his loving wife of 61 years), his children Rick and Janet (Hans) Heydenreich, Robert and Karen (Bradshaw) Heydenreich, Amy and Randy Erben and grandchildren, Kate and Will Monroe, Lauren, Julia, Pryse, Jack, Christian Erben and Emma Erben and great-granddaughter Molly Monroe whom he all adored.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Sunset Memorial Park. Afterwards the family will receive friends at a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life at Club Giraud, 707 N. St. Mary's Street in downtown San Antonio on Tuesday, November 7th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with Father Richard Aguilar officiating. Casual dress and Guayabera shirts are encouraged.
