Epifanio Salazar Sr., age 90, went to be with his creator on September 3, 2015. He was born in Geronimo, TX on January 18, 1925. He was a WWII Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and Purple Heart recipient. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 9186, Alamo Silver Wings Airborne Association, DAV and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Alamo Chapter 1836. He was a businessman who owned and operated Veteran’s Barber Shop on the west side of San Antonio which is still in existence today. He leaves a legacy of a strong fraternity of barbers to include brothers, nephews and nieces in the profession. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Teresita Salazar, son, Abel Salazar, brothers, Antonio, Luis, Santiago and Eduardo Salazar. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Magdalena Salazar; daughters, Gloria (William) Quintanilla, Janie (Andy) Cisneros, Esther (Reggie) Garza, Rosalinda (Willie) Guzman; son, Epifanio E. (Cynthia) Salazar Jr.; grandchildren, Carlos DeLeon, Patricia Fisher, Melissa Roberson, Sandra Fleming, Stephanie Montes, Michael Salazar, Matthew Salazar, Marissa Salazar; great-grandchildren, Austin, Alyssa, Alexandria, Aidan, Ray and Mia; brothers, Frank, Tomas, and Manuel Salazar; sisters, Inez Vasquez, Frances Bustos and Cruz Saenz; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. Visitation at 10 A.M. with funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Rd 78240 with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Army honors.
