Emma Lee V. Zapata, born on 16 December 1923, entered into rest peacefully on 18 April 2015. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos G. Zapata. Emma Lee is survived by her family that includes her son: David V. Zapata and wife Cheryl of Rockport; and daughter Dolores and husband Amador Garza of San Antonio. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom knew her as Mimi: Carlos Garza (Debra), Annette Sanchez (Paul), Denise Garza, David Edward Zapata (Michelle), Steven Zapata, and Michelle Hilbig (deceased); great-grandchildren: Catherine, Caroline, and Carlos T. Garza, Adam Sanchez, Jacob and Emilee Hilbig, and Rylan and Dylan Zapata.
Emma Lee was born and grew up in San Antonio. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Draughon’s Business College. She worked at Fort Sam Houston and Kelly Air Force Base, retiring in January 1980 as an Inventory Management Specialist. She and her husband Carlos enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States.
The family would like to thank Mystic Park Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and Hospice Compassus of San Antonio for their services and care of Emma Lee during her final years.
Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:30 P.M. Monday, April 27, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Hospice Compassus of San Antonio, 4243 Piedras Drive East, Ste. 120, San Antonio, TX 78228, and/or the San Antonio Humane Society, 4804 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78229.
