Emma L Rodriguez

Our beloved “Tia” Emma L. Rodriguez passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas after suffering from esophageal cancer that was diagnosed a year and two months before. A short while before she died, she simply said her sister Elia was calling her home. Emma was born on April 27, 1923 in Falfurrias, Texas. She is survived by her closest relatives, nephews Joe D. Nava, his wife Anna, and their children Alex (wife Brenna, children Isabella Emma and Christine), Steve (wife Patty) and Mariana; David Nava and wife Tisa; Gabriel Nava, his wife Carol and their children Jay Edward and Magdalena Alicia; and Joe C. Pena, his wife Marta and their children Giselle and Marlena; and niece Patricia L. Constantin, her husband Dan and daughter Julianna Elia Burrus. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Lucio, Carlos and Fernando; sisters, Maria Rodriguez and Elia Rodriguez Nava; and nephew, Edward Nava. Tia Emma never married, but she devoted her life to caring and loving others. Everyone called her Tia. Tia Emma spent her whole life caring for others. When her parents were ill, she was their main caretaker until their death. After the birth of her sister Elia’s children, Emma moved in with the Nava family and became a second mother to all of the Nava siblings. Emma worked many jobs, but spent most of her career at Reed Candle Co. It was here where she met her best friend, Olivia Herrera. Upon her retirement from Reed, Emma, along with Julian and Elia Nava, ran the Christ the King Catholic Church Thrift Store located on Perez Street. A visitation will begin, Thursday, January 19, 2012, 5:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home, Friday, January 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. Mass to be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church, with interment to follow in San Fernando Cemetery III.
