Emma C. Peña, born on April 3, 1924, has gone to be with our Lord on November 6, 2020 at the age of 96 years old. Born to parents Cayetano Tomas Canales and Rosa Morales Canales, Emma resided in Benavides, TX with her four siblings, Alma, Rosa, Mariana, and Roel. Emma worked at the post office in Benavides, TX.
On April 17, 1949, Emma married the love of her life Genaro Everett Peña, from San Diego, TX. The couple moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where they lived for nine years and had four of their six children. They then moved to San Antonio, TX, where they lived happily throughout the remainder of their lives and added two more children to their family. She took a job as a school crossing guard for 4 years. She then went on to work for a radiology group as a billing clerk for several years until she became a full time housewife.
Her loving, caring, and light-hearted thirst for life, has impacted many people in her lifetime and will live on through happy memories shared by family and friends that have had the pleasure of being a part of her life for so many years. She was a great role model in the lives of all her children and grandchildren holding them to the highest standard to treat others with kindness and integrity. She was an avid sports enthusiast and had the honor of meeting her favorite Spurs player, David Robinson. Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Cayetano and Rosa, her sisters, Maria "Mariana" Luisa and Rosa Gloria, her loving husband of 70 years, Genaro, and her youngest daughter, Susan Marie Peña.
She is survived by her children, Christina Dolores Sandoval (Albert), Genaro (Jerry) Daniel Peña, Patricia Diane Granado (Richard), Debra Peña Castillo (Edward), and Carlos Thomas Peña, as well as her grandchildren, Enrique (Stephanie), Monique (Jonathan), Jenique, Eric (Anaí), Patrick (Lauren), Kevin (Ashley), and Kimberly, and her great-grandchildren Emily, Carolina, Lucia, Emilia, Olivia, Elena, Matyus and Baby Lorelai Emma on the way.
The Peña family would like to thank Emma’s care takers, Debbie González, Jessica, Hortencia, Debra M., Maira, Mary, Isela and hospice nurses, Maureen and Falina, for their kindness and gracious caregiving. The family would also like to thank Crest Palliative for their support during this difficult time.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Procession will depart from the funeral home on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Saint Joseph (South San) Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery 2.
