Emily Everett Taylor was born to Ernie and Emma Taylor on October 19, 1934 in Cordell Oklahoma where he was the oldest of three siblings. Emily has been preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth (Budge) Taylor and sister Annie Bell (Sis) Goombi. Emily and Betty were married in 1954 in Hobart Oklahoma. He and Betty met at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he and Betty attended college for 3 years before he enlisted in the Air Force in 1954. Emily served in the Air Force for 26 years and retired as a decorated Chief Master Sergeant. During his time in the service he received the Bronze Star for Valor in Vietnam and named the Air Force Airman of the Year in 1967. In 1964 he received a letter of commendation for providing dental services to President Lyndon B. Johnson. He was stationed in numerous places during his career and he received other various medals and commendation throughout his years of military service. He and Betty retired to San Antonio in 1979 where he worked as a Dental Radiology Instructor at University of Texas Health Science Center. In 1985 he assumed the role of Chief Administrator at the Veterans Hospital serving in that capacity until 1996. Emily was a life time member of the Parent Teacher Association and was involved in two generations of Boy Scouts. He was very active in the Cornerstone Church of San Antonio where he served for 29 years in various capacities helping his brother and sisters find Jesus Christ.
Emily is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Jane Powers; along with four children; Peggy and Brian Carrico, Karen and Steve Stiles, Don and Suzanne Taylor, and Mark and Dorothy Taylor; nine grandchildren; Lori McMurray, Stephanie Brewer, Jonathan Carrico, Aaron Carrico, Arianne Gray, Holland Rymer, Bryce Taylor, Annabelle Taylor, and Angela Blair; 8 great-grandchildren; Kathy Roehm, Desmond Carrico, Joshua Blackwood, Trinity Brewer, Deveney Brewer, Thatcher Gray, Benson Gray, Beckett Rymer and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A memorial service will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Air Force military honors.
