

Elizabeth G. Shanahan, age 93, passed away, February 17, 2012 in San Antonio. She was born on January 21, 1919 in Oakland, Nebraska to Vera M. and Roy W. Hanson. She attended the University of Nebraska, and married Eugene L. Shanahan, February 1, 1941, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her husband Col. Eugene L. Shanahan, USAF (Ret). Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she and Gene were married for 62 years.
She is survived by their children and their spouses, John and Judy Campbell, Bruce and Cristi Shanahan, Randy and June Shanahan; grandchildren, Patrick Campbell, Carrie (Campbell) Brotemarkle, Hillary Millard, Andrea Shanahan, Lindsay Shanahan and great-grandchildren Dane, Luke, Joseph and Timothy. She is also survived by her sister Jean Warrick and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elizabeth lived all over the world during the time Gene was in the USAF, including Washington, Illinois, New York, Indiana, Germany, Nebraska and Texas. She loved to travel, visiting many areas of the United States and Europe. She eagerly planned and enjoyed vacations to her children in Virginia, California and Texas as well as many family reunions. She was an accomplished pianist playing for church, friends, special events, the Harp and Shamrock Society and for church services at the Inn at Los Patios. During their military years, she was very active in Wives Clubs all over the world and most recently in the Hospitality Club and Red Hat Society. She particularly loved to play bridge.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 12:30 PM at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
Elizabeth requests that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army.
