Elisa Martínez Contreras was called to be with the Lord on September 5, 2023, at the age of 89. Elisa (Licha) was born on May 5, 1934, in Monterrey, México to Juan Francisco MartÍnez and Margarita Galván. She was married to Miguel Tristan Contreras of Goliad, Texas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Miguel, both her parents, and her grandson, Zachariah Bostic.
When Elisa was 16 years old, her mother died and thereafter a greater bond between her widowed father, 5 sisters and 2 brothers was established. As a teenager, she began to work at Cerveceria Cuauhtémoc. At the brewery, known as La Famosa, she played for the company's female softball team. In 1960, Elisa and Miguel married in Monterrey, México and then began life together in San Antonio. They had 6 daughters and 3 sons. Elisa was a devoted housewife and mother, but she also helped Miguel manage his successful welding business. Their highest priority was to instill cultural values and faith in God in their children. They also sent their children to private schools under the guidance of the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco, the Sisters of Divine Providence and the Central Catholic Marianists. Elisa always emphasized the importance of work and education to her children. During summer vacations, the Contreras family would travel in their red and white Chevy van to several places across Mexico. Later when she was widowed, her children took her on trips to Europe and Australia. Elisa enjoyed cooking, gardening, fútbol, and attending Juan Gabriel concerts. She lived an extraordinary life, had a zest for life, and displayed a deep devotion toward her family and friends.
