Edward Livingstone Anderson, MD, was born on April 26, 1926, in Austin, TX, and passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on August 1, 2015, in San Antonio, TX. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Livingstone Anderson, his mother Josephine Rock Schultz, his brother Sandy McPherson Anderson, his daughter Danielle Sue Green, and his granddaughter Jennifer Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce B. Anderson, sister, Bettye Anderson Schwartz, and children, Larry (Debbie) Anderson, Linda Sue (Lenny) Coker, Danalee “Sissi” (Danny) Easterling, Danny Lambrecht, Jo Anne (Sam) Goodrich, and Alan Lynn Anderson, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A member of the Greatest Generation, he was a veteran of the US Navy and served honorably aboard the USS Tarawa as a Gunner’s Mate. Dr. Anderson graduated from UT Austin Pharmacy School and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Class of ’58. He served with distinction in the Bexar County Medical Society and served two terms as Chief of Staff at Southeast Baptist Hospital.
Dr. Anderson was an eclectic man with many talents in mechanics, mechanical and architectural drawing, construction, astronomy and computers – always having projects in the works. He built and flew airplanes with his brother, gathered the family to build a cabin in West Texas, overhauled cars and boats, and also built computers and other electronics. Each project was researched quite meticulously and completed to perfection.
Dr. Anderson leaves behind a strong legacy: his devotion to family, friends, and patients. The passion and caring for his patients throughout his lengthy medical career will forever remain unparalleled. Our loss is great, but we will never forget him since he lives on in all of us.
The family acknowledges special thanks to Heberto Garza, Jr., MD, and the PCU nursing staff of NE Baptist Hospital for the outstanding medical care that Dr. Anderson received in his final days.
