US Army, Retired, 29 years of service, CSM Eduardo Fernandez, a Korea War Veteran, joined Jesus on 15 August 2017. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Pena Fernandez. Survivors are: His wife of 27 years, Esperanza Elizondo-Fernandez; daughters: Guadalupe (Victor) Santos, Virginia E. (David) Horn; one son, Ernie (Anna) Elizondo, Jr.; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He was a life member of ASWAA, and many other military organizations. He and his wife, Hope, were/are the owners of the famous Drop Zone Café & Bar. Some military awards are: Bronze Star Medal with V Device for Valor; Purple Heart; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal w/2d Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Occupation Medal with German Clasp; WWII Victory Medal; National Defense Service Medal w/1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Parachutist Badge; United Nations Service Medal; Expert Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar; Sharpshooter Qualification Badge with Carbine Bar; Italy Occupation Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and GCM 7th Award. Visitation will be held on Thurs August 31, 2017 at St. Benedict Catholic Church from 5-9 pm, with a Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday September 1, 2017 at St. Benedict Catholic Church at 9 am. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
