Heriberto C. Vasquez, known to family and friends as “Eddie”, was called home by the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the age of 80. As a young man, Eddie enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. He then became a Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office, dedicating 32 years of service. While delivering mail on one of his routes, he met his future wife, Eva G., who he was married to for 51 precious years. Eddie was an avid sports enthusiast. He was proud of coaching and of supporting his youngest son in baseball. He also enjoyed hearing stories about his grandsons’ play. His favorite team was the Landry-era Dallas Cowboys. He was astute at numbers and could mentally solve math computations. Quiet by nature, Eddie had a clever sense of humor which he often “brought out” at family gatherings and with close friends. Gifted in written expression, he penned heart-felt songs in Spanish to his wife, daughter and first grandchild. Eddie is preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Guadalupe C. Vasquez; brothers Enrique, Ramon and Oscar C. Vasquez; sisters Otilia Menchaca, Estela De La Vega and Bertha C. Vasquez; and his beloved son Eddie Albert Vasquez. The blessings of his memory will live in the hearts of his wife, Eva, daughter and son-in-law, Diana Rosa and Sergio M. Gonzales; son and daughter-in-law, John David and Laurie P. Vasquez; siblings Elisa and Manuel C. Vasquez, and Mary Lou Perez; grandchildren Karissa Loren, Kenna Jane and Kevin Luke Gonzales; Joaquin Diego and Alejandro Andres Vasquez; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family sincerely thanks the entire dedicated staff of Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation-South San for the assistance in caring for Eddie during his final year.
Eddie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was, and is, a treasure of the heart. A visitation will begin on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at 5:00p.m.with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino funeral home on 226 Cupples Rd. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at 9:30 am to St. John Berchmans Catholic Church for a mass of resurrection at 10:00 am.
