Dudley Lee Pugh, age 72, passed away of Alzheimer's disease in San Antonio, Texas, on March 18, 2017. He was born to Emma Agnes Rawlings Pugh and Charles Orville Pugh on August 24, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1963 and the University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1967. He also earned his teaching certification at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
Commissioned as an officer in the U. S. Army, Dudley served in the field in Vietnam as an infantryman and armor officer. He earned the Bronze Star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against Vietnamese hostile forces from July 1969 to June 1970. He earned the Army Commendation medal for heroism in Vietnam on January 29, 1970. Following five years of active duty, he served in the U. S. Army Reserve serving in the 4164th USAR School and teaching Command and General Staff College courses through Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 28 years.
Dudley taught science classes at South San Antonio High School in San Antonio for 21 years before retiring in 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Connianne Dorville Pugh; his son, Daniel Lee Pugh; his daughter-in-law, Lauren Leckie Pugh; grandson, Connor Garnet Pugh, of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Charles O. Pugh of Cynthiana, Kentucky and William G. Pugh of Kokomo, Indiana; and sister, Vilma Pugh Murphy of Fishers, Indiana. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews in California, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and New York. He was predeceased by brothers, Wayne and Robert Pugh; and sisters, Cora Pugh Woods, Wilma Pugh Weber, Marilyn Pugh Fisher, Doris Pugh Swinford, and Norma Pugh Fey.
A graveside service with military honors and burial at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio is set for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 06, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a religious or charitable organization or the Alzheimer's Association.
